Moving In-Person Events to Online Events

2020 was a year of digital changes, and that has carried over into 2021. Shows, conferences, even schooling, are now online events, and adjusting to this new change is just par for the course. So how do we move on from in-person events to online events? See some of our tips here!

Use Up-to-Date and Reliable Technology

One thing necessary to fully enjoy the online event experiences is having reliable technology and up-to-date apps.

    • Decide which device you want to view the online event on – Whether it be your desktop, tablet, or smartphone, make sure it has everything necessary to run the online event to avoid interruptions.
    • Download necessary apps – Some events may require you to download an app to view their event. Reviewing the apps/programs needed ahead of time will make the process more comfortable when attending the event.
    • Update where needed – If you already have the apps/programs necessary to move forward, making sure that they’re updated will save you from a potentially frustrating experience when signing on.

Familiarize Yourself with the Digital Event Platform

You may be asking, “how does a virtual event work?” Whether it’s your first zoom meeting or an interactive show, it’s good to familiarize yourself with the presenters’ technology and event platform. The host of the event will often give instructions beforehand to make the process simple. However, downloading the app a few days earlier and exploring the different options will help you enjoy the online event more.

Get the Most out of the Online Event

With online events, resources are available at your fingertips. You can usually access everything during the event to elevate the experience and get the most out of the information provided.

Events that have transitioned from in-person to online can try to up attendance by offering giveaways. It’s always good to take advantage and see how you can enter to win special event prizes–sometimes you’re entered just by attending.

Try Not to Multitask

One of the best ways to enjoy an event is to be present. Multitasking is tempting and easy to do during online events, but this takes focus away and can ruin your experience.

Appreciate the Convenience

Although you may be missing your live show or event, there are some perks to moving to the digital version. The convenience of enjoying the show from the comfort of your own home certainly helps compensate. You can wear what you want, sit where you want, and you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for snacks.

Interact with the Hosts

Hosts of events are pulling out the stops to make their online events interactive for attendees. Take advantage of this! Ask questions, participate in discussions, answer polls, and check out chats on their social media. Interacting will help you keep focused on the content and still give you the feel of being in person with the presenters.

Have an Open Mind

We miss in-person events, but they’re not always an option. Online events also have a lot to offer attendees, so don’t miss out on information, experiences, and fun by skipping the online version.
